Announcements

Welcome to CS 80!

  • Announcements will be posted here from time to time.
  • You can find the tentative schedule and notes under the ``schedule'' section.
  • You can also find out the course description and references we will be using for the course under ``information.''
  • Also available are the course policies for this class under ``information.''

12/11: Practice Exam

The final practice exam is now available

12/7: Sound Files

The code for the sound file [wav] manipulation is on Blackboard under the ``Course Documents'' area. Just go to Project->Add Class and name your class ``sound'' [without the quotes]. After you have added the class file to your project, double click on it to get to the code part and erase all that is there. Copy and paste the code from blackboard into that file and you are set. In order to play the files, make sure that the file is in your debug folder [with your executable]. In order to play the file you want, you will use the PlayWaveFile() function in the regular form. For example:

    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender....)
        sound.PlayWaveFile("nameOfFile.wav")
    End Sub
11/28: Final Exam Schedule

The final exam is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 12/21 11:00-1:00pm SB C205

From now on in the lab, you will be working on your final project. The final project is due 12/21 at 11pm.

11/12: Cards

Here is the code for picking 5 cards that we did in class.

11/11: Sample Test

I have uploaded a sample test for you Here (pdf)

11/7: Lower triangle answer

The answer to the lower triangle lab is now online. We did this in class, but I thought I would put the code online for you anyway.

11/5: Class Notes

I have uploaded a clarification of the Lucky 7 program we did in class under the schedule area. I have also uploaded different looping examples under the same schedule area.

Don't forget that HW 5 is due:
HW pg 253 and 259: 6.1 #'s 1-3, 36

10/5: Midterm

The midterm will take place on Tuesday 10/24/06 in room C-205, during lecture. It will take the entire class period. A study guide will be provided, and review will take place the previous Thursday, provided that questions are asked.

10/3: HW 4

Homework 4 was given out in the last class.:

Section 4.2 #'s 4-6 [warm-up - don't turn in]

End of Ch 4 pg 190-191, programming problem #5 [turn in]

9/21: HW 3

Homework 3 was given out yesterday:

pg 102-103 #'s 38-40 (new book)

pg 104-105 #'s 44-46 (old book - handout)

it is due on 10/03 at 11pm (even though we do not have class).

9/15: HW 1

Homework 1 was due last night at 11pm, however I realize that there were a few problems emailing the files for some of you. Gmail blocks VB files, so sending them to my gmail address if futile. For those of you who are still having problems with Blackboard, you must email me the files to jamie_levy --AT-- earthlink --DOT-- net, where the ``--AT--'' really equals @ and the ``--DOT--'' equals a period. If you sent me an email to my QC address, I have it. Confirmations will go out later this weekend.

8/31: Downloads and Blackboard

If your book did not come with the VB 2005 disk, you are able to download the express version for free at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vb/download/

Also, make sure that your blackboard account is set up. To log in go to: www.cuny.edu. Instructions for login are available at: this website. If you have forgotten your BlackBoard password, but have an account, make sure your email is up to date in Esims. If you are one of the people I've already talked to about blackboard issues, please email me at my gmail address with the subject: CS 80 - blackboard.

For those who have the book, please try to read Ch 2 and the beginning of Ch 3 before the next two classes.
